Story by Cindy
Kyra couldn't make this trip but she really wanted too, so this story is by Cindy alone. For today's show Mary S. and I decided to wear our CATS FIRES THE IMAGINATION T-shirt to the show. I unpacked Celina's Birthday present and discovered I didn't bring the second part of the present. I also forgot to bring Keith, Jeffry, Stephen and Billy's presents too. I had to run over to the Rite Aid and buy Celina a birthday card because I forgot that too. Gezzzz, I think I'm becoming forgetful in my old age. LOL.
Again we went to the theater early cause we're suppose to met Hector and Eddie by the stage door. We arrived extra early because we wanted to give Celina her presents before the show. We went and met Celina, she was so happy this is her big day, we gave her her presents and cookies from Jessica. We left and and met Hector, we all waited for Eddie but he never showed up. I was really worried, infact i worried about him all through the show. while waiting we chatted with cast member as they came to the theater. I was practically happy to see Stephen Bienskie (Tugger) was back today. Lenny Deniel (Alonzo) drop by to say hi, as did Marlene Danielle (Bombalurina), Sharon Wheatley (Jennyanydots), Tesha Buss (Rumpleteazer), Keith Edwards Wilson (Macavity) and a few others that I can't remember. We waited till 2:30 than decided to go and wait in the theatre lobby, it was getting cold.
Today's show only had one person out, Mark Moreau (Tumblebrutus) was still out and Billy Sprague Jr. was stand-in for him. We had our favorite seats today, front row AA #'s 2,4,6, & 8. I sat in 8 there wasn't anyone in the two last seats so it was like being in an end seat. Hector sat across the isle from us in AA #14 on the end seat. Today is Celina's (Demeter) last show for two weeks, besides it being her Birthday, she's taking time off to do On A Clear Day.
The show started and the cats with the blinking eyes came out, my friend sitting next to the ramp opposite from me was scared by Pouncival as he came up behind her. I had Munkustrap (Jeffry Denman) on my side. There was a big mucho man sitting on the other side of the theater that let out a loud holler when a cat with blinking eyes crawled out of the pipe by his feet it set the whole audience into laughter. Mary S. remarked that that's was a nice way to start the show.
In the Naming Of Cats we had Cassandra, (Lynne Calamia) Skimbleshanks, (J.P. Christensen) Coricopat (Billy Johnstone..hey is he following us) and Tantomile (Silvia Aruj) in front of us. I look over to the other side of the stage and I saw Mistoffelees (Julius Sermonia) down on all fours staring at that big mucho guy that screamed at the beginning of the show, it looked as if they were having a stirring match.
The old Gumbie cat had some problems today it seams Jennyanydots (Sharon Wheatley) had a hard time keeping her hat on, finally she gave up trying and just took it off. Being the true professional Sharon is she just made it look like it was part of the act, and it was very funny to see.
The Rum Tum Tugger seamed like he had a bit of trouble getting the trap door to come open, but that never stopped Tugger he went right on with the song. His dance partner today was a friend, Marzi that I email all the time. She told me she was going to be at the show and that she was very shy, but Tugger shows no mercy to shy people, LOL. They danced and she thought she was done and started to sit down but he pulled her back up cause he wasn't done, it was so funny. Way to go Marzi, you danced with the Tugger man
Nothing different happened during Bustopher Jones, Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer, Old Deut., and Pekes and Pollicle songs so I'm going to go right to The Jellicle Ball. The Jellicle Ball had a lot of things in it that were memorable but I can't put them all in order so I'll just tell you about them. At one time during the Ball Alonzo was sitting in front of Hector on the ramp, he let his tail fall by Hector and when Hector reached out to play with it Alonzo gave him a mean look and pulled his tail away. We all laughed as Alonzo gave him more dirty looks before crawling onto stage.
Again today Misto and Pouncival danced beautifully together, you could tell they danced together before they were so good together. In-between dance breaks for them, Misto was sitting on the floor by our side of the stage and he kept peeking around the corner and smiling at Hector sort of like he was asking for his approval. Hector kept looking at me and grinning as I smiled on. At the end of the Jellicle Ball when all the cats run to the front of the stage, I had Mistoffelees right in my face as he stirred at me, I had to laugh cause he was so cute.
After intermission as the cats come back on the stage slowly is the best part they always do something funny or interesting and today was no exception. Right in front of us several of the cats created a kitty huddle. I know who two of them were, they were Plato and Demeter. I don't remember who the others were but it was very funny, looked like a pile of fur in a heap. LOL. I also had a face making contest with Alonzo, he sat in front of me making faces and I matched his faces but he won cause I cracked up laughing first. I also had Cassandra do something similar with me too.
During Growltiger's Last Stand Mistoffelees gave Munkustrap's parrot a pet on the head, very cute. Also during the part where the crew are sent to their bunks, Munkustrap is the only one still on deck but he lay's on the top deck and naps. But today before he layed down he gave his little parrot a kiss good night. Awww how sweet.
I don't have anything new to report about Skimbleshanks but I just love saying the name so I'm saying it here. As for Macavity, well I'm always in awww of this song and Demeter is my favoite female feline. The fight scene is the part that always scares me as I told you before. Today I held my breath as Alonzo spun Macavity around it looked as if he was going too fast, and I even heard Hector say "oh my". I even tried to put on my brakes for him. But everything turned out fine as Alonzo slowed down and Macavity slide away to safety. Whheeeww!!!!
Mr. Mistoffelees song was beautifully done today by Julius Sermonia. He's a very talented young man. I even remembered to count his turns today, he did 30 turns. Way to go Julius! As Hector say "Just be yourself and you'll be ok" and I totally agree with him. OK, here's a little Mistoffelees trivia for you, Julius is Mistoffelees #16, this trivia fact was brought to you by none other than my friend Hector, Thanxs Hector.
As the show ended and the cast takes a last bow, I started a standing ovation as Jennyanydots was standing in front of me leading the audience in another round of Mr Mistoffelees. When she saw me stand she started to clap for me too, LOL. Than Tugger came over to us and held out his hand and gave me a hi five but what i didn't realize was that Demeter was sneaking up on me from the side while Tugger was occupying me. When she touched me, she scared the living daylights out of me and I screamed, LOL. Hector, Demeter and everyone else laughed so hard as well as I did. She ran up on stage and I waved to her and mouthed "Happy Birthday". Good one Celina, you got me. LOL.
After the show we all gathered together out side to wait for the cast so we could tell them how good they were today. I finally got a picture of Roger Kachel (Mungojerrie), he always takes off so quickly that I miss him every time. But this time I had Billy Johnstone (Coricopat) catch him for me. Another hard one to get is Lenny Daniel, and again Billy came through for me as he snapped a picture with the two us. Billy also took a picture of Stephen Bienskie (Tugger) and I and he kind of caught me off guard there. Than Billy got a picture of Jeffry Denman (Munkustrap), Tesha Buss (Rumpleteazer) and me together. I don't know who but Billy handed the camera to someone and asked them to take a picture of Mary, himself and I together, he's such a ham. we all talked a while and than said out good-bye.
We went back to the hotel and picked up our luggage headed for the bus station to go home, when we arrived we were notified that all south going buses were canceled till the next day. So there we were stranded in NYC, they sent us to a hotel by the buss station (at our own expense) for the night. After checking in we went to have dinner, played in the snow and went back to out hotel and had a little party. Actually we all had a pretty good time being stranded in NYC, but I don't think I would want to do it again.
So ends another great weekend with our feline friends till next time, which might not be till late March. Thank You everyone in the cast of CATS for a great time and a special thanks to Keith, Celina and Billy our guest photographer, he jokingly said this is his new profession. LOL.
