 2:00 PM Matinee

Story by Cindy with guest author Mary (Jazzcat38)

For this Show we had stage seats. We really weren't planning on
seeing the matinee show, but our friend Yanellie (Mistykitty) offered to
run by the theater and pick up some tickets for us. So Ta Daa, here we
 are New York.

Before the matinee show Yanellie and I met up with Billy Johnstone
A/K/A MystryCAT, CoricoBWAY and Coricopat. Before Billy arrived, we
dropped off a big bag of home made cookies for the cast and crew.

Oh and one more thing, Billy I know you're going to read this and I
can't help myself but 4+14=3 LOL. Ok enough silieness I'll get on with
 the show LOL.

Half an hour before the show, Yanellie had to leave, so we said our
good-byes. I went around to the front of the Theater to wait for Mary
 to arrive.

When I got there I was shocked when I saw the long line that
extended from the theater lobby and down the street to the corners on
both sides of the theater. By the time I entered the theater and was
seated there were 15 minutes to go before the show began. I was so
excited as I always am before a show. LOL.

As the show starts and the cast comes on stage, I'm always amazed
at Coricopat and Tamtomile (Silvia Aruj) and (Billy Johnstone) as to
how perfect they are together. How do they do that? They must have
rehersed for hours to perform so beautifully. Also I'm always amazed
at Patrick flying on the trapeze. To me it seems very dangerous, but he
 makes it look so easy.

During the Naming Of Cats we had Coricopat (Billy Johnstone) and
Jennyanydots (Sharon Wheatley) in front of us through most of the
song. Coricopat leaves but Jennyanydots stay's. There were some
small children down front and the cast had fun with them throughout
out the entire show as well, which we found quite amusing.

Besides Coricopat (Billy Johnstone) knowing we were at today's show,
Demeter (Celina Carvajal) was the first to find us in the stage seats.
She was looking through this hole in the stage scenery and spotted me.
I Looked over because I felt eyes staring at me. When I did she smiled
and put her hand through the hole to wave to us.

At today's show the part of RumTum Tugger was played by Matthew
Vargo. WOW WOW WOW!! Was he excellent. I had a chance to talk to
Matthew during intermission and I told him how much I loved his
performance. I also told him I was a little disappointed when I heard
Stephen was on vacation. a However after seeing him, I have to say he
blew me away. I thought he was very comical too. Than the time came
for Tugger to choose an audience member to dance with, during the
'Tugger Song'. He choose a really good one they danced really good
together. Hmmmmm I wonder if that was fixed LOL. Matthew was a
joy to watch. He has his own style of doing Tugger and that's what so
unique about CATS on Broadway. Every actor/singer/dancer brings
something fresh to the show. Another thing I love is that fans never
see the same show twice. Even if you were to see the show twice in
the same day, as we did.

Also out of the show today was Roger Kachel (Mungojerrie). Jonathan
Taylor was his swing. I've seen Jonathan Taylor in the role before and
he is definitely an excellent Mungojerrie.

Mary and I noticed that Tumblebrutus (Patrick Mullaney), was a little
more hyper today than we're used to seeing. I hope it wasn't because
of the cookies we delivered to the cast before the show, LOL. Tumble
(Patrick Mullaney) and Pouncival (Jon-Erik Goldberg) were constantly
fooling around during the whole show, like two naughty brothers
 getting into mischief.

This is the first time we've seen James Hadley play Skimbleshanks. He
was fantastic and he has a beautiful voice. At one point during the
show, he used a high voice to sing a line (darn I can't remember what
line it was *grin*). But when it came to his song he sounded a little like
Jon Paul Christensen, or so I thought, however, the more he sang the
more I saw his own interruption of Skimble. Again I have to say WOW!

During Gus: The Theater Cat, we saw Jennyanydots (Sharon Wheatley)
laying on the car trunk like she was sound of sleep. It was so cute.
Because of the position of our stage seats, we couldn't see what the
 others were doing.

Growltiger's Last Stand was basically the same. Than again, they're
different because of the different cast changes. There's a little game
we play when the Siamese cats come out. We try and figure out which
cats are where during this song LOL.

Memory is my favorite part of the show. Linda always sings so beautiful
and as always my eyes became a little teary. I don't know if it was me
or what, but when the cast sang The Addressing of Cats, I could feel
their voices piercing my whole body WOW! What a feeling.

As Always after the show we waited for the cast to exit the stage
door. We got autographs and photo's from Matthew Vargo (Rum Tum
Tugger) and James Hadley (Skimbleshanks). We also waited to say "hi'
to the rest of the cast too. We didn't want to keep them because we
knew they had to eat dinner before the next show. So we left, shopped
and had dinner ourselves. Thanks everyone for a great time! We'll see
you all at the evening show!

 APRIL 19, 2000 8:00 PM

Story by Cindy with a guest author Mary (Jazzcat38)

At this evenings performance we had front row seats AA #2 & 4 right
hand side facing the stage. Mary sat in #2 right next to the ramp and I
 was right next to her.

The intro music starts and after it ends, Demeter ran out. You hear the
car and see the flashing light. At this time it's very quite. Demeter rans
away and all of a sudden we hear this little child laughing. It set the
whole audience off in laughter. LOL

For some reason, the show seemed really different this time. Must
have been that clean up rehearsal the cast had on April 11th, with
Gillian Lynn. At least...I think that's when it was. Everything in the The
Jellicle Cats song was so perfect today. The dancing is so much fun to
watch. I like to watch different cats each time I see the show. Tonight
I watched Coricopat (Billy Johnstone) and Tantomile, (Silvia Aruj)
Ooooo Billy you danced really good tonight such perfect moves you
make it look so easy. I did watch some of the others But Coricopat
stood out for me tonight. Someone told me that Coricopat doesn't do
much in the show, but hey, did you ever watch Billy dance. Hey check
him out in the Jellicle Ball. Ok, back to the Jellicle Ball. I love the music
here and that brings me to something else Mary and I noticed. The
Music was some what different too. It sounded stronger I wonder if
they had a clean up rehearsal too LOL.

The Old Gumbie Cat song is always so much fun to watch. Munkustrap
is so funny playing with Jennyanydots feet and the cast when they
dress as the bugs are so cool. There's parts in the tap dance that are
my favorite to see. It's hard to explain. You just have to see it to
understand. Sometimes I feel like getting up and dancing along LOL.
Don't worry, I would never put you all through that.

The highlight of the show happened After the Old Gumbie Cat song
ended. The Rum Tum Tugger music played and usually Tugger comes
crashing through the trap door in the back wall and yells. But not
tonight. The music played again and still no Tugger. We were
wondering what happened to Tugger. We could see the cast smiling,
while looking where Tugger usually enters. We didn't know why but all
of a sudden Bombalurina (Marlene Danielle) got up and started to sing
making up her own words to the song. Her improvising was so good
that I don't think anyone noticed. Just before the second verse Tugger
comes running on stage and picks up the song right on cue as if nothing
had gone wrong. Again Tugger found a good dance partner, who looked
so over come with excitement. It looked as if she was still trying to
recover after intermission. After the show we talked to the cast about
the Tugger mishap and they told us that the trap door jammed and
they could hear Matthew beating on the door and say he couldn't get
the door open. LOL. It was very funny for us but I feel sorry for poor
Matthew I hope he's not too upset.

Bustopher Jones song was so funny tonight. We laughed so hard at
Tumblebrutus and Pouncival rolling around while Bustopher was singing.
Hey, watch that Alonzo. He some times gets a little pushy LOL.

Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer song was somewhat the same, but with
the minor fact that tonight Jonathan Taylor was Mungojerrie again. He
did a great job at it as well. Rumpleteazer is always just as good. The
part of the song that makes me laugh so much is when she acts drunk,
she does it so cute. LOL.

Pekes and Pollicle had some crazy stuff in it that we noticed. Poor
Pouncival almost got knocked over by Munkustrap. Mistoffelees and
Skimbleshanks after picking up their hats and boots went flying down
the ramp by us, and we thought they were going to go crashing right
into some people sitting in row K. They were going so fast,
whewww....They than gave their hats to some people sitting there, and
left to go lay on the ramp, next to us to watch Munk sing. When Misto
came and laid on the ramp he took his tail, and flung it over the ramp.
It kind of laid in between the ledge and some props. Mary sat there
looking at it and I told her she better move it or his tail might get left
behind when he gets up. LOL. So Mary took it and flung it over him and
he turned his head gave her a cute little smile. We both giggled.
Mean-while Alonzo was doing something similar to some people on the
other side of us. He's so funny because he dares them to touch his tail
and when they do he gets all huffy. Also Munkustrap didn't do the funny
accent to the phrase about the big dog. Darn I loved that.

The Jellicle Ball was WOW!! So exciting! The cast danced they hearts
out. We saw alot of sweat fly tonight. I love the way Pouncival
(Jon-Erik) and Misto (Julius Sermonia) danced together. They are so
good it just moved me. Thanks guys. At the end of this dance, when
the cast runs to the front of the stage Julius, was right in front of us.
You could see the sweat just pouring off him. Julius you are an
 awesome dancer.

After intermission, when the cats come back on stage, Pouncival came
out one of the big pips, that lead out to the front row by the ramp,
across from us. When he did this he scared the girls, by the pipe, when
he came through the pipe. LOL. After that, Pouncival climbs onto the
ramp and sits there for a while. He fixes his tail all nice and neat, and
than looks at us all as if saying, now I dare you to touch it and he sticks
his nose in the air again. We all laughed. Alonzo and Misto came over to
us and were just sitting there staring. We started making faces at
them. Alonzo made faces back but Misto just kept staring. Than I
started to giggle and he actually smiled back. LOL. Maybe he thought I
was funny. LOL. While I was staring at the cats, Tumblebrutus came
over and rubbed his head up against Mary. She got such a kick out of
 that.

Gus The Theatre Cat was played a little more serious than usual. The
cats sitting in the background were being so good. They just sat there
and watch Gus as he sang.

During Growltiger, Misto polished the floor in front of Griddlebone for
her to walk on. Munkustrap and Misto kept playing with Munk's parrot.
When the crew went below deck, Munk sat down, on the deck to get
some rest. When Munk started to lay down it seemed like he forgot
that the parrot was on his shoulder and when he looked over at it he
almost jumped out of his skin....very funny.

On Skimbleshank's song, we noticed that Skimble didn't use the accent
in his number, but everything else was the same as the earlier show.
Including the naughty cats in the back pushing each other around. But
Skimble straightened them out. This made me think about Skimble a
bit. He seems to be a bit of an disciplinarian to most of the cats. I
noticed this on several occasions clapping his hands to get the kittens
 back in line, like Tumblebrutus.

Macavity song performed by Demeter (Celina Carvajal) and
Bombalurina (Marlene Danielle) was beautifully performed. I love
Demeters voice it was as beautiful as ever.

Macavity's fight was awesome as always...but as I mentioned before,
it scares me when Alonzo spins Macavity around. I mean, I know he's
the bad guy, but hey, he's just so misunderstood. I love that evil cat.
 LOL.

Mistoffelees dance was very good tonight. I think we counted 33 turns.
Way to go Julius. All those beads that looked like they went flying
everywhere... or where they beads, WOW!

As for Memory, what more can I say? Linda's beautiful voice always
makes me cry and today was no exception.

I don't know whether it's just me or the fact that I know that the show
will be closing soon, but every song and dance in this show seemed to
be so overwhelming...or was it that the cast performed so much more
beautifully tonight. The Journey To The Heaviside Layer and The
Addressing Of Cats was done with such a feeling that it's so
indescribable............ Go see it, feel it, live it.
