Part one
Kyra, Jazzcat and I got up at 4:00am and took
a Bus to NYC (It's a 3
1/2 hour ride), we arrived in NYC at 9:40 am
met up with
Chessnamoon and Alonzo checked into out hotel
at 10:00 am. WOW!
was it great to relax from the walk from the
bus station with all the
decorations for the party weighting us down.
We dropped off our
suitcases and got a drink than we all headed
towards TGI Fridays to
meet SDPaul and Mistykitty. So we had total
of seven of us on the
decorating committee. First we had a little
meeting to plan what was
going to go where, while doing this we managed
to order some lunch
from upstairs, (the decision of what to order
for lunch only took us
about 30 minutes. LOL.) and had it brought down
(for those of you who
weren't there we rented the banquet room at
TGI Fridays across from
the theatre). After a very short lunch, because
we were too excited and
couldn't sit still to eat, we got to work.
Our plan was to make the place look like a junk
yard. SDPaul and Kyra
were in charge of hanging the lights. Jazzcat
and Alonzo made eyes to
hang on the walls, Mistykitty fanned black and
yellow streamer to hang
around the place too. I was in charge of doing
the table clothes and
Chess did the table cards and confetti on the
tables. In the months
before our arrival, Jazzcat had made all the
table cards and name tags,
which I might add here that she did a BEAUTIFUL
job. It was a lots of
hard work and very time consuming.
Chess and Alonzo worked on the cards to the cast
I gathered the
messages from the fans that paid for the cast
dinner and I emailed
them to Chess who took them to a printer and
had them all put in a
book type card. Alonzo drew the cover picture
and Chess assembled
them. Chess and I also worked on a flyer that
we placed on everyone's
table that thanked everyone that helped with
the planning and
decorations for the party.
Oh, and here's something funny it took Chess
and I TWO weeks to
decide on a menu for the party. She wanted one
thing and I wanted
another, so we ended up polling our friends
and family asking their
opinion. She wanted beef *yuck* and I wanted
fish. LOL. we ended up
having both and chicken. I'm just really sorry
I didn't get to taste it.
We noticed that even with all the help we had
that we still were falling
behind, the lighting committee ran into a snag...Oppssss!
when they
couldn't find a socket to plug into....OK, lets
put our heads together and
think....naaa, call the manage and ask him for
a extension cord. LOL.
Now what was so hard about that. LOL.
Oh no it's 2:00 pm! Kyra and I have to go back
to the bus station and
met Lynette (our cake maker) and help her with
the cake to the
restaurant. Kyra and I ran 6 blocks the the
bus station when we got
there it accrued to us that we didn't know what
Lynette looked like.
LOL. Than all of a sudden we saw this girl come
off the bus with this
humongus cake and we thought there's no mistake
that's got to be her.
I yelled Lynette! if you could have seen the
relief look on her face. The
poor girl rode all the way to NY in a bus with
a suitcase and a cake on
her lap. It was like 100 degrees that day and
poor Lynette was so
upset because the cake had melted some. I took
the cake from her,
and when I did I was SO surprised how heavy
the cake was. Right
away I said will, get a cab and take it to Fridays.
We had no problem getting a cab because everyone
was so fascinated
with the cake. Some asked "can I get a piece
it will lighten your load",
and when we got to the restaurant the cab had
to drop us off across
the street from the restaurant. People keep
asking what it was for we
sort of drew a little bit of a crowd of people
that wanted to know about
the cake.
when we arrived back at TGI Fridays I could see
the place shaping up.
The manager came down to see how we were doing
and when he saw
the cake he said WOW! You said a cake but I
had no idea it was this big.
He had some waiters or waitress take the cake
and put it in a
refrigerator because it was a little melted
but you could still see the
drawings on the cake. Here's a short description
of the cake, the icing
was black with white trim, there are several
CATS on it, Rumpus Cat
was melted into the icing, but you could still
make out Mistoffelees
standing over Victoria with his arms spread
open in the air,
Skimbleshanks, Tantomile, Coricopat, Munkustrap,
Macavity,
Bombalurina, Demeter, and Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer.
All were
done from scenes from the show. The writing
said "CATS" "Thanks for
the Memories" It took two of us to carry the
cake over to the
restaurant.
After we finished decorating we all had to rush
back to our hotels to get
ready for the show. But first we needed to help
poor Lynette find hers.
LOL. After dropping Lynette off we headed towards
ours, In our room
we had FIVE woman that needed to shower and
dress. Heaven help us!
Anyway some how we manage to do it. We than
headed out to
Littlgriz's hotel to put on her makeup for the
show. We had to take a
cab so Chess stood out in the street and got
us a cab because she's the
bold one, and the only with enough guts to stand
out in the middle of a
NYC street. Have you ever seen those NY cabbies
drive? LOL. We got
into the cab and held on for dear life. Thank
God we got to the hotel in
one peace. We went up to the front desk to find
out what room Littlgriz
was in and the desk clerk told us that her family
was not registered.
"What? Not registered" Chess said, after the
near heart attack we all
just had Chess discovered that the clerk had
misspelled Littlgriz's last
name. Phew!
After some discussion it was decided that both
Chess and Kyra would
be doing Littlgriz's makeup. They used pictures
from our photo album of
Linda Balgord and photo's of Betty Buckley from
the $8.00 program
that they sell before the show. So littlgriz's
makeup was very unique.
After we finished with Littlgriz's makeup we
left for the WGT. We
couldn't get a cab (where are they when you
really need them) LOL, so
we did a fast pace walk..............
